Ironed out a few bugs. Tested my F12 post-install setup scripts. They work lovely.

Bug one: Nvidia driver causes pc to lock (hard lock) on X starting.

Fix -- add 'iommu=soft' to the grub kernel parameters line

Bug two: Bar key dont work at all

Fix -- somehow execute (I do it in GNOME's System->Preferences->Startup Applications) 'xmodmap -e "keycode 94 = backslash bar"

I will post my scripts later today or tonight when I clean them up. Mostly, I have garnished alot of tips from the FedoraForum.org community and some stuff that I noticed myself needed odd work. The Crossover and Cedega stuff is mine, most of the rest is cobbled from others.

]]>Gretting Google Chrome 64Bit working on Fedora 12http://www.schotty.com/blog/2010/3/30/gretting-google-chrome-64bit-working-on-fedora-12.htmlSchotty2010-03-30T12:17:54ZI had some issues initially getting chrome to work correctly, as apparently I have the 32Bit Firefox + Flash plugin installed, so the trick of placing that flash library in the google directory didnt quite work. If you have an actual 64 Bit install of Firefox and associated flash library all you need to do is symlink that to the /opt/google/chrome/plugins folder (you may need to create the ./plugins folder).

1) Create the plugins directory:

sudo mkdir /opt/google/chrome/plugins

2) Download the 64 Bit Adobe Flash File. I can give you a direct link to TODAYS available file.

wget http://download.macromedia.com/pub/labs/flashplayer10/libflashplayer-10.0.45.2.linux-x86_64.so.tar.gz

3) Extract that tarball into the said directory we just created

sudo tar zxf libflashplayer-10.0.45.2.linux-x86_64.so.tar.gz /opt/google/chrome/plugins/

4) Launch chrome with the plugins enabled flag

google-chrome --enable-plugins

5) Enjoy. Validate the plugin is loaded by going to about:plugins in the url bar and hitting enter/return. You should see a section near the top (mine has it as the top section) titled "Shockwave Flash" and containing the following text

File name: libflashplayer.so

Shockwave Flash 10.0 r45

If you have that, you are golden and flash should play fine. Visit youtube or another flash heavy site for a quick validation to verify that it works.

All the linux information will remain in the "Linux Resources" section, and once I decide whats going on with my OBSD usage and information, I will either redo the howto (bigger, badder, and with photos & movies) or just ignore it and leave it for those that want it still.

Aside from the scripts that i am working on and in a few cases collecting, those will go up by latest next weekend in the entirety. These are for Fedora, although should work mostly for CentOS/RHEL as well in most cases. Those that find an issue first, please contact me so I can fix it. Eventually this will be encompassed in an aid tool that will implement or unimplement features via a wxPython GUI.

Yes, I am still alive. I have been having a blast (sarcasm tag in full bore mode) dealing with some of the quirks of Ubuntu and MacOS X 10.6. Needless to say, my comfort level says "Screw it, back to Red Hat products". And thats how it is going. Redid my MacBook and Asus G51. The MacBook is where I want it, the gamers' rig is nearly there. I have some scripts I have made that when cleaned up and validated in a VM, I will post. The scripts are for 64 Bit Fedora 12 only at this time, but if there is enough of a demand I can do more revsions and architectures. Although, for the bulk of it, its a 64vs32 bit thing, and the scripts are to make certain things work that are a pain on 64 but not an issue on 32 bit.

I will post back over the next few days my scripts.
